When we started our investment journey, we did not find the platform to help us succeed—we built it so you can use it too.
Our story
Our investment journey that led to founding pfolio
Exploring investment approaches
Banks & funds were an easy to dismiss. Mediocre performance coupled with high fees makes for an unattractive combination.
Buy & hold seemed to be the preferred mode for passive investors. Yet, we found the occasional large drawdowns prohibitive and only an option for very long time horizons.
Surely robo-advisors can do better, right? Still, limited portfolio options and static asset allocations did not justify the fees charged for us.
Homing in on an investment approach
Diving deeper into the literature, we learned about portfolio optimisation as per Markowitz's Modern Portfolio Theory and factor investing, specifically the momentum factor.
Ultimately, we learned how to combine Modern Portfolio Theory and momentum investing with Adaptive Asset Allocation.
For us, this approach provides the best combination of downside protection through robust diversification, as well as strong returns through the momentum factor.
Building our own solution
And so we started developing our own tools to allow us to control every aspect of the portfolio building process.
Once we were happy with the results, we realised we did not just build portfolios for us to invest in but an entire generalised portfolio building framework.
